‘If you look at his wins’: Eddie Hearn gives honest opinion of Terence Crawford’s P4P legacy

Terence Crawford recently announced his retirement through a video released by The Ring Magazine. It was an announcement that was preceded by Crawford being stripped of his super middleweight title by the WBC due to non-payment of sanctioning fees, resulting in him losing his undisputed status.

Since the Omaha native announced his retirement, his career, and in particular his resume, have been scrutinized, with many discussing where he belongs alongside the all-time greats. Eddie Hearn recently spoke to Fight Hub TV about Crawford’s career and whether “Bud” belongs on boxing’s Mount Rushmore.

Crawford began the announcement video by saying:

“Every fighter know this moment will come. We just never know when. I spent my whole life chasing something. Not belts. Not money. Not headlines. But, the feeling you get when the world doubts you. But you keep showing up. You keep proving everyone wrong. This sport gave me everything. I fought for my family. I fought for my city. I fought for the kid I used to be. The one who had nothing but a dream and a pair of gloves.  And, I did it my way.”

Talking to Fight Hub TV about Crawford’s career, Hearn gave his honest assessment:

“I don’t think he’s Mount Rushmore. And the reason that I don’t is because I don’t think his resume is strong enough. Now, ability-wise, I think he may be on the Mount Rushmore.

“But I just feel like if you look at his wins…I always joke with him and say, ‘Tell me your best wins,’ this is pre-Canelo. He says: ‘My best win is Ricky Burns.’ it’s my fighter, a great fighter. But Ricky wasn’t a pound-for-pound great. I mean, he was one of the greatest Scottish fighters of all time. He’s a three-division world champion.

“But at the same time, but I think that because of Terence’s ability, he missed out on a lot of those big names. He beat Spence. Spence was at the backend of his career. He beat Canelo. Dare I say it, Canelo’s at the backend of his career.

“They’re amazing wins. He beat everyone that was put in front of him. I think he could have beaten so many more fighters, but his stardom’s come at the back end of his career. But ability-wise, one of the greatest of all time. Resume, not one of the greatest of all time,” said Hearn.
