Devin Haney Next Fight: Eddie Hearn Urges Warm-Up Before Garcia Rematch
At the Barclays Center in New York City, NY, on April 20 this year Ryan Garcia stunned the boxing world defeating Devin Haney by majority decision with the scorecards reading 112-112, while the other two were 115-109 and 114-110 for Garcia. Controversy soon ensued with “Kingry” failing a VADA pre-fight and post-fight drug test, with Ostarine found in his urine. A return to the ring has been rumoured for “The Dream” and Eddie Hearn when speaking to Fight Hub TV has offered advice on what he feels Haney should do before a rematch against Garcia.
Devin Haney Next Fight: Eddie Hearn Suggests Warm-Up Before Ryan Garcia Rematch
Hearn Recommends Return Plan for Haney
The fallout from Haney-Garcia shows no signs of subsiding and the fight and subsequent controversy remain a major talking point in the boxing world. Despite the fight result being changed to a no-contest, the way Garcia dropped Haney three times is still fresh in many people’s minds and it’s vital “The Dream” plans a sensible comeback. A rematch between the two seems destined to happen eventually but Hearn has revealed what he feels the San Francisco native should do.
“I think Devin needs to get himself together and get a fight scheduled,” said Hearn. He continued: “Everyone is talking about the potential Ryan Garcia fight. Potential? What is that, May, June, July? In my opinion, he needs another fight before he goes into another fight.”
Hearn added: “In my opinion, needs another fight before he goes into a big fight. So, if I’m Devin Haney right now, I’m scheduling my fight, whether that’s in Vegas. He’s a big name still.”
Talking on the possible return of Haney, Hearn said: “I know he had the defeat or not the defeat against Ryan Garcia, but he’s still a big name in the sport.”
Hearn Shares Insights Into Haney vs. Garcia Lawsuit
Haney has recently filed a lawsuit against “Kingry” alleging battery, fraud and unjust enrichment, with Garcia’s promoter, Golden Boy Promotions also named in the suit. Eddie Hearn recently spoke to Oscar Bevis at The Stomping Ground about the lawsuit: “It’s really interesting. This could be a really pivotal moment for boxing because people have said in the past that when a fighter fails a drug test and goes through with the fight, should there be legal action or a police action against that fighter,” said Hearn.
