Derek Chisora fires retirement warning at Deontay Wilder ahead of April 4 clash

Deontay Wilder vs Derek Chisora headlines a Misfits Pro card in association with Queensberry Promotions at the O2 Arena in London on April 4.

Ahead of their showdown in London, Wilder and Chisora faced off in an interview with Ariel Helwani, with Chisora firing a retirement warning at “The Bronze Bomber.”

Derek Chisora and Deontay Wilder set to meet in London on April 4

Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) has been written off more times than most, following brave losses against Oleksandr Usyk and Vitali Klitschko.

After his loss to Tyson Fury in 2022, many thought that would be the last we’d see of “Del Boy,” but wins against Gerald Washington, Joe Joyce and Otto Wallin have revitalised his career. Chisora has spoken often about his 50th fight being his last, and Wilder will be the opposition.

Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) was the most feared heavyweight on the planet for a number of years, eviscerating opponent after opponent with his dynamite right hand. His trilogy against Fury undoubtedly took a lot out of him, as did inactivity following the third Fury bout. In more recent years, back-to-back defeats against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang followed. He did return to the ring this past June, stopping Tyrrell Herndon in the seventh round.

Wilder has spoken openly about his desire to return to the top of the heavyweight division, and despite being on the verge of his 50th fight, he appears not ready to contemplate retirement.

When speaking to Ariel Helwani, Chisora is clearly embracing this as his last fight, but he also made it clear this will be Wilder’s last fight:

“Yes, I’m a stepping stone for this young man here — this knockout artist. I’m happy with that.

“It’s a retirement fight for me, but subconsciously it’s a retirement fight for him. He just doesn’t realise it yet.”
