Deontay Wilder’s Future Plans Revealed After June 27 Victory

On June 27 at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Deontay Wilder returned to the ring against Tyrrell Herndon. The heavyweight fight headlined a Global Combat Collective card live on PPV.com and BLK Prime Pay-Per-View. It was a triumphant return for “The Bronze Bomber” as he stopped Herndon in round seven. His manager Shelly Finkel has now revealed to Dan Rafael the plans for Deontay Wilder’s next fight.

Shelly Finkel Reveals Deontay Wilder Next Fight Plans

Wilder controlled the fight well with his jab, with Herndon only having limited success. A knockdown in round two didn’t seem to trouble Herndon for long as he protested it was a slip.

Herndon began to fatigue and in round six, Wilder began to land some big shots. A lot of punches were missing, but he did land some big shots, scoring another knockdown in the six. The domination continued in the seventh, and following a couple of big right hands, the referee jumped in to wave off the fight. At first glance, it did seem a premature stoppage, but Herndon was engaging less and less as the rounds went on.

It’s difficult to know just how much Wilder has left, but this win will have blown away some of the cobwebs, and “The Bronze Bomber” will surely be looking to move on to bigger fights, while staying active.

Dan Rafael has now revealed via his X account that he has spoken to Deontay Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel about future plans. Finkel revealed that Wilder has an offer to fight in South Korea this fall. If the money is good, “The Bronze Bomber” will take that fight and then look for a big fight, preferably against Anthony Joshua in 2026.

The Future for Deontay Wilder

Wilder spoke after the fight, reflecting on his win: “I’ve been laid off for a long time, getting myself back together, repairing myself emotionally. It is just nice to be back in the ring. This is a new beginning for me,” Wilder said.

Despite the win, there are still plenty of questions regarding the future of Wilder. His jab looked effective, and he had success with his left hook but he looked tentative at points with the right hand, but after 12 months out of the ring, it could be ring rust. It looks like Wilder will fight in South Korea next, and then could we finally see Wilder vs Joshua?
