Denzel Bentley Proves 2 Sharp for Brad Pauls

On Saturday, December 7, at the OVO Arena, Wembley Stadium, Denzel Bentley (21-3-1, 17 KOs) proved “2 Sharp” as he defeated Brad Pauls (19-2-1, 11 KOs) in the main event of the Queensberry Promotions Magnificent 7 event. The entire card was shown live on TNT Sports 2.

The opening round saw Bentley start sharp and land a couple of eye-catching right hands. “2 Sharp” continuously applied the pressure before Pauls fired off a combination at the end of the round. Bentley landed a beautifully timed counter in the second round, which stunned his opponent momentarily and was the highlight of the round.

Bentley started brightly and looked in control after the first few rounds. “2 Sharp” controlled the distance superbly during the early rounds. The fifth round was by far the best round for “The Newquay Bomb” who closed the distance well and started putting his shots together. Following a couple of strong rounds for Pauls, Bentley seemed to get his movement, back, letting his jab go and countering impressively throughout the seventh round.

A smart adjustment with his feet saw “The Newquay Bomb” close the distance well again in round eight. The work rate of Pauls helped keep him in the fight to this point.

Round 10 was a brilliant spectacle with Bentley landing a heavy shot, forcing Pauls to take a knee. He did his best to avoid the follow-up attacks from “2 Sharp” and survived the round, but ultimately a huge round for the London fighter. Bentley again hurt his opponent in the eleventh with Pauls showing his bravery to fire back.

Denzel “2 Sharp” Bentley boxed intelligently in the final round, controlling the distance and ensuring Pauls could not get close, to do his best work. Both fighters gathered in the middle of the ring and the scorecards were read: 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112, crowning him unanimously the EBU European, British, WBA continental and WBO international middleweight champion.

Undercard

Sam Noakes (16-0, 14 KOs) extended his impressive ascent up the lightweight rankings as he dominated a brave Ryan Walsh (29-5-2, 13 KOs), winning by unanimous decision with the judges scorecards reading 119-109 and 120-108 x2. This win ensured the Maidstone fighter retained the British, Commonwealth & WBO international lightweight titles.

In the four-round float bout, George Crotty (1-0, 0 KOs) made his professional debut against Dylan Courtney (2-18-2, 1 KO) in a four-round cruiserweight fight. It was a dominating performance from the recent Queensberry recruit, who won 40-36 on the referee’s scorecard.

Lawrence Okolie (22-1, 16 KOs) made a successful heavyweight debut, defeating Hussein Muhamed (18-2, 14 KOs) by first-round TKO to win the WBC silver heavyweight title. It was a big right-hand counter that knocked Muhamed down, and despite beating the count, the referee deemed him in no position to continue.

David Adeleye (13-1, 12 KOs) defeated Solomon Dacres (9-1, 3 KOs) by first-round TKO. It was a big left hook that caught Dacres and left him on the canvas, in no position to continue. The win crowned Adeleye the new English heavyweight champion.

Aloys Junior (9-1, 8 KOs) showcased his exceptional power, defeating Lewis Oakford (6-2, 0 KOs) by third-round TKO to retain the WBA continental title and become the new Commonwealth silver cruiserweight champion.

Sean Noakes (9-0, 4 KOs) retained his English welterweight title, overcoming a difficult start to defeat Mathew Rennie (14-1-1, 1 KO) 97-93.

Royston Barney-Smith (13-0, 7 KOs) impressed with his shot selection, scoring a fifth-round KO win over Andres Navarrete (12-3, 3 KOs) to extend his unbeaten professional record.

Queensberry Livestream

Pierce “Big Bang” O’Leary (16-0, 9 KOs) lived up to his nickname, scoring an impressive third-round TKO win over Jose Edgardo Perdomo (6-3, 3 KOs) in their super lightweight contest.

A mature performance from Billy Adams (5-0, 0 KOs) – saw him defeat Jonatas Rodrigo Gomes de Oliveira (6-17, 5 KOs) 60-54 in their six-round super lightweight fight.
