Oscar De La Hoya Reacts to Jaime Munguia Adverse Findings Revelation

As reported by The Ring and confirmed by other outlets, including Dan Rafael, Jaime Munguia returned a positive VADA urine test for synthetic testosterone related to his unanimous decision rematch win over Bruno Surace (117-111 x2 and 116-112) on May 3. Both Surace and Munguia have since responded, but Munguia’s former promoter Oscar De La Hoya, has now given his honest take on the news in an interview with Fight Hub TV.

Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) boxed smartly in the rematch, staying clear of Surace‘s (26-1-2, 5 KOs) right hand while doing enough to earn a unanimous decision. The victory in Riyadh appeared to be a springboard for Munguia to move on to bigger fights under the tutelage of Eddy Reynoso.

However, those hopes have seemingly been extinguished after VADA informed all relevant parties that Munguia’s A-sample returned an adverse analytical finding, following a urine test collected on May 4 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Mexican has 10 days to request analysis of his B-sample, though that appears to be a formality. A suspension feels inevitable, with Munguia-Surace 2 likely to be ruled a no-contest.

De La Hoya Points the Finger

When talking to Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya had his say on the news of Munguia’s failed test:It’s shocking. It’s just shocking. I can’t really comment on it, but, yeah it’s pretty shocking. My perspective is, who’s their trainer (Edy Reynoso)?

“I mean, if there’s four fighters who are testing positive for whatever drug, who’s the trainer? Because the trainer should oversee that. The trainer should overlook that.

“Whether they have a nutritionist, whether they have a doctor, but the trainer is in charge, so, I don’t know, maybe you should talk to him.”

De La Hoya made it abundantly clear in his interview with Fight Hub TV, where he feels the blame lies, and suggested that serious questions will need to be asked of everyone involved.

Once the B-sample result is confirmed, the future of Jaime Munguia should become much clearer.
