Benavidez has long desired a fight against Mexican giant Canelo Alvarez – but it appears the Arizona native is prepared to remain at light heavyweight if the Alvarez fight still cannot be made and take on the winner of the undisputed championship fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol, which looks set to go ahead following a postponement due to Beterbiev’s knee injury.

Sometimes these guys look really good but I’m not scared of no man. I’m not scared of anybody at all. That’s what I want to prove, not only to the world but I want to prove it to myself, that I am the best in the world.”

Whatever comes next for the Arizona fighter, he is destined for huge fights, should he come through the June 15 bout. The undefeated heavyweight fighter is feared by many as a phenomenal combination puncher, who throws everything with spite – and will surely move onto more big fights should he navigate past Gvozdyk.
