David Benavidez names the one fight he wants to see in boxing

Boxing looks set for a memorable 2026. Is the sport perfect? No, it’s not, and there are many gripes for us to discuss, but there are some great fights already in the calendar, and some more being rumoured. David Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) is one of the most fan-friendly fighters, and looks set to move up to cruiserweight to face Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez.

When speaking on the Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer, Benavidez was asked what fight he would like to see, and he named one boxing fans have pined after.

David Benavidez reveals the one fight he wants to see

When asked for the one fight he’d love to see between two fighters now in their prime, David Benavidez said: “After that victory, this weekend (Jan 31), I would love to see Shakur and Gervonta. Gervonta and any of the top guys at that weight class is a great fight.

“Gervonta-Shakur, Gervonta-Teo, Gervonta-Keyshawn. I mean that 135-140 pound weight class is hot right now. I think that fight would be one of the most anticipated, if they can make it happen. Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson. By no means would it be easy for either fighter. We’ve just seen that Shakur Stevenson was able to shut a great fighter like Teofimo down, and make him look silly.”

Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis

Stevenson-Davis would undoubtedly be a spicy build-up, while the main event would be a fascinating chess match.

Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) has often spoken of the wanting the fight, but following Davis’ latest legal troubles, the fight appears a long way off.

Recently, a Baltimore judge issued an arrest warrant against Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) for violating his probation, less than a week after he was arrested in Miami on allegations of domestic violence, following a two-week search for Davis. Following his arrest, he later posted bail for $8,500, but is now back in trouble with this latest arrest warrant, relating to a hit-and-run in Baltimore in 2020.

Following the 2020 incident, Davis received 90 days of house arrest, three years of probation and 200 hours of community service, relating to the crash that injured four people.

If David Benavidez gets his wish, and we see Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis, who wins and how?
