Dave Allen compares himself to Homer Simpson ahead of Filip Hrgovic showdown

On May 16, at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster, Dave Allen faces one of the toughest challenges of his career, as he takes on Filip Hrgovic. The entire card will be promoted by Queensberry Promotions, live on DAZN.

Allen is largely loved by the British public for his honesty and come-forward fight style. Speaking to Ariel Helwani in the build-up to May 16, Allen hilariously compared himself to Homer Simpson.

Dave Allen set for heavyweight showdown with Filip Hrgovic

Hrgovic (19-1, 14 KOs) has suffered just one career defeat, on the Matchroom vs Queensberry 5v5 show against Daniel Dubois. Since then, he has defeated Joe Joyce and David Adeleye. The Croatian has looked impressive at points during his career, but during his fights, he normally has a vulnerable spell, and that is when Allen will look to pounce.

Allen (25-8-2, 20 KOs) rivals Tyson Fury for how many times he has retired. His professional career has had more ups and downs than the Blackpool Big Dipper. He has shared the ring with talented fighters, including Luis Ortiz. His best wins have come against Lucas Browne and Johnny Fisher.

Allen hilariously compares himself to Homer Simpson

Talking to Ariel Helwani, Allen made a comparison only he could make:

“I think I’m like the human Homer Simpson in lots of ways. He botched a world heavyweight title once, didn’t he?

“Homer Simpson had the snowplough business; I’ve had a few businesses. I’m like a teetotal Homer Simpson, the more I think about it… I used to play bowling quite a lot as well.”
