Conor Benn return to 147 pounds confirmed: Opponent named

Conor Benn’s next fight has been a constant talking point since his much-publicised move to Zuffa Boxing. After his win in the rematch against Chris Eubank Jr, Benn quickly announced his intention to move back to welterweight, and that return to 147 pounds has now been confirmed, with Benn set to appear on the April 11 Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov undercard.

Conor Benn’s next fight: Journey continues with Zuffa Boxing

In a press release confirming Conor Benn’s next fight, the “Destroyer” could barely contain his excitement about returning to the scene of his two wars with Chris Eubank Jr:

Conor Benn’s next fight will be his long-awaited return to 147 pounds. In his first fight since leaving Matchroom Boxing, Benn (24-1, 14 KOs) will face the experienced Regis Prograis (30-3, 24 KOs) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In a press release confirming his appearance on the Fury-Makhmudov undercard, Benn could barely contain his excitement about returning to the scene of his two wars with Chris Eubank Jr:

“April 11 can’t come soon enough, returning to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium again, where I made history against Eubank Jr, means everything to me. My last fight there showed the world exactly who I am and what I’m about.

“Fighting on the biggest stages, in the biggest shows, I fear no one. I’m fully locked in and ready to deliver another statement performance.”

Conor Benn and Regis Prograis recapped

Since returning from his much-publicised failed drug tests, Benn lost to Eubank Jr in a memorable back-and-forth war.

He blew away the ring rust in that one and dominated the rematch, scoring two knockdowns and winning by a unanimous decision. Prograis outpointed Joseph Diaz last time out, where Prograis looked past his peak. Before that, he faded badly in the second half of his fight against Jack Catterall.

Looking at the career trajectory of both, it’s difficult to see anything other than a dominant Benn victory. Or can the wily veteran Prograis roll back the years?
