Conor Benn Vows Redemption: ‘Next Time, the Finish Is There’

On April 26, Chris Eubank Jr (34-3, 25 KOs) and Conor Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) put on a 12-round war, with Eubank prevailing by unanimous decision 116-112 x3. In the post-fight press conference, Team Benn spoke emotionally about the defeat but looked ahead and expressed his desire for revenge.

In the post-fight press conference, an emotional Team Benn reflected on what might have been before answering a series of questions from the media. When asked about a potential rematch, Benn paused before saying: “I believe…yeah, I want the revenge. I believe inactivity played a part.”

Benn added: “I’ll make sure for next time, the finish is there.”

Delving further into his feelings after the defeat, he said: “I didn’t think I lost the fight.”

“I think it was a close fight, and that’s it.”

He added: “I hear he’s got a broken jaw and I wish him a speedy recovery.”

Despite receiving praise from all in the post-fight presser, Benn felt he could have done more: “It’s a hard one to swallow man,” said Benn.

“I need to do better.”

After both made their extravagant ring walks, the hysteria inside the stadium reached a fever pitch. Eubank produced the cleaner work, but Benn had his moments and hurt Eubank on several occasions. When Eubank used his jab and controlled the distance, he looked sharp and picked his shots well.

Benn carried his power throughout the fight – while also using his jab effectively and working off it smartly. The eighth, ninth, tenth, and final rounds provided unbelievable action, with both fighters showing incredible heart and courage. The scorecards read 116-112, all in favour of Eubank. It was an enthralling fight, with both men deservedly earning their plaudits.

Whatever comes next, these two fighters gave us an all-British classic.
