Ex-World Champion Dismisses Eubank Jr vs Benn Rematch

On April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Chris Eubank Jr defeated Conor Benn in their highly anticipated fight by unanimous decision with the scorecards reading 116-112 x3. Following the fight, attention quickly turned to a potential rematch, with both sides revealing discussions were ongoing. When speaking to Poker Strategy, Carl Froch reflected on the fight and gave his honest opinion on the rumoured rematch.

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn: Carl Froch Reflects on April 26

Froch Not Convinced Eubank vs Benn 2 Should Happen

Following their memorable ring walks, the action got underway. Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) worked well off his jab in the opening two rounds, but the cleaner work came from Eubank. As the rounds went by Eubank began to establish his jab and control the distance. Despite this, Benn was still dangerous, landing the heavier punches.

Benn seemed to hurt Eubank in the eighth, with both fighters letting their hands go, while continually exchanging pleasantries. There was plenty of back-and-forth action over the final few rounds, including a final round where both threw bomb after bomb. Eubank Jr (35-3, 25 KOs) ultimately did enough to earn the decision.

While many have called for the rematch, Carl Froch is not convinced we need to see it: “It was an entertaining fight. It was edge of the seat stuff, especially towards the end when Eubank sort of got in front of Conor Benn and just opted to stand still, I was impressed and thought it was good performance from both of the guys.

“Conor Benn didn’t deserve to win so the right man won. I’m not sure the rematch should even be a thing. The first match was great. But we’ve seen it. Now we know what’s gonna happen.
