Amir Khan Makes Bold Claim on Hamzah Sheeraz vs Canelo Alvarez

As Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford edges closer, rival fighters still want to face the legendary Mexican. One British fighter who has been linked to a fight with Canelo is Hamzah Sheeraz. When speaking to iFLTV, former world champion Amir Khan discussed a potential fight between Sheeraz and Canelo, backing the Brit to get the victory.

Amir Khan Discusses Potential Hamzah Sheeraz vs Canelo Alvarez Fight

Former World Champion Backs Sheeraz to Beat Alvarez

Despite Canelo preparing for his superfight against Crawford for the undisputed super-middleweight crown, many are wondering what could be next for Alvarez, as he will still have two fights left on his four-fight deal with Riyadh Season. Khan, who faced Canelo in 2016 and was brutally knocked out by the Mexican, has identified Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs), who defeated Edgar Berlanga by fifth-round KO, as a fighter he believes can beat Canelo.

“Canelo always has problems with guys that are taller than him, and [Sheeraz is] someone with a hard jab, a strong jab,”said Khan when speaking to IFLTV .

“I honestly think he can beat Canelo, but I don’t think Canelo will take that fight. Because if you think about it, there’s a lot for him to lose. He’ll be thinking, ‘oh, why do I have to fight this young, hungry fighter?’

Khan Points to Turki Alalshikh’s Role in Making Canelo Alvarez vs Hamzah Sheeraz

“Unless Turki [Alalshikh] puts the money down and says he has to fight him. So, the pressure of [making] that fight is on Turki. As a boxing fan, I would like to see that fight, because I think Hamzah beats him,” added Khan.

It remains to be seen what is next for Canelo after the Crawford bout on September 13. Could he retire win or lose? Or will we see him complete the four-fight deal with Riyadh Season? Sheeraz and a rematch with Dmitry Bivol have been mentioned as potential 2026 fights for the current undisputed super middleweight champion. Turki Alalshikh posted on his X account following Sheeraz’s win over Berlanga that he believed Sheeraz deserved a shot at Canelo in 2026.
