Callum Simpson Eyes Major Domestic Clash Against Undefeated World Title Challenger
On June 7 at Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley, Callum Simpson (18-0, 13 KOs) survived two knockdowns before stopping Ivan Zucco (21-1, 18 KOs) in round 10 of their European super middleweight title clash live on Sky Sports and Triller TV. Simpson has since spoken to Sky Sports and revealed the opponent he would like next, and it’s a big fight.

Simpson vs Zucco caught fire very quickly, with Simpson being knocked down by a looping right hand followed by a straight left after just 20 seconds. The Barnsley native was in no mood to hide away and ended the round on the front foot, putting his shots together impressively.

Simpson was getting the better of the exchanges throughout the contest but was knocked down again in the third when he was caught with a left hook. The pressure from the Brit seemed to tire his opponent, and in round 10, following several uppercuts, the Italian was knocked down. Despite beating the count, he was knocked down again. Zucco’s corner pulled their man out after a third knockdown, which crowned Simpson the new European super middleweight champion in front of his adoring hometown fans.

Looking ahead to what could be next, Simpson is eyeing a big name: “Hopefully. I think they’re probably going to watch that and go: ‘He got dropped first round.’ It’s probably more enticing. There’s probably more chance of me getting fights now,” Simpson said.

When asked about the possibility of facing Hamzah Sheeraz, Simpson told Sky Sports: “Hopefully if he gets through [Edgar] Berlanga.”
“To be fair even if he gets beat by Berlanga, I think it’s still a massive fight so why not? I’d love that fight,” said Simpson.
