At the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham on Saturday, July 20, Brad Pauls (19-1-1, 11 KOs) defeated Nathan Heaney (18-1-1, 6 KOs) in a dramatic fight for the British middleweight title. The rematch between the two was the headline event of the latest Magnificent Seven card promoted by Queensberry Promotions live on TNT Sports in the U.K. The undercard saw entertaining fights including Owen Cooper vs. Ekow Essuman.

The opening round began with the deafening noise of Heaney’s supporters reverberating around the arena. It was a good start from Heaney keeping the distance well and putting his shots together impressively. The next two rounds saw Heaney continue to control the distance well, forcing Pauls to reach in and miss. Pauls had limited success with single shots, but the Stoke man looked in control.
Round four was another good round for Heaney, before he fired out a slow jab, which Pauls countered with a beautiful right hand, knocking “Hitman” down. Pauls began aggressively in the fifth, pressuring Heaney, who was looking to hold throughout the round. “The Newquay Bomb” looks to have the power to trouble Heaney with every shot.

Since the knockdown Pauls has been moving his feet quicker and it’s ensuring he’s getting into range much easier. The right hand from the Newquay fighter has swung this fight 360 degrees.
The next few rounds were difficult to score, but the more eye-catching work came from Pauls who seemed to be hurting Heaney with his power punches. Pauls had a positive end to the eighth. “Hitman” needs to find a second win from somewhere. Heaney summoned up a good ninth round, putting his shots together well and hurting his opponent with a left hook.

As we enter the championship rounds, Heaney looks to be controlling the tempo much more effectively with Pauls slowing down over the last couple of rounds. The Eleventh round saw the Newquay-born fighter end the round in style, hurting Heaney with a barrage of heavy shots.
The last round saw Pauls fly at his opponent and land a flurry of heavy shots, knocking Heaney down. The Stoke-on-Trent was unable to beat the count, crowning Brad Pauls as the new British middleweight champion. What a fight.

He continued: “Thank you (Frank) Warren and (Nathan) Heaney for the rematch.”
When asked about what comes next, Pauls said: “It’s a busy division, and I will happily fight anyone.”

Soloman Dacres (9-0, 3 KOs) overcome a slow start to defeat Michael Webster (10-2, 6 KOs) by seventh-round TKO to retain his English heavyweight title.
Ezra Taylor (9-0, 6 KOs) dominated, as he defeated Carlos Lamela (8-4, 5 KOs) by unanimous decision in their light-heavyweight bout, with the judges scorecards reading 99-91 x2 and 97-93.
Ekow Essuman (20-1, 8 KOs) defeated Owen Cooper (10-1, 4 KOs) with a dramatic last-round stoppage to win the WBO European welterweight title.
Zach Parker (25-1, 18 KOs) defeated Jack Arnfield (26-4, 6 KOs) by an impressive fourth-round TKO in their super middleweight clash.
Shabaz Masoud (13-0, 4 KOs) defeated Marvin Solano (24-18, 8 KOs) in their super bantamweight bout with the referee’s scorecard reading 80-70.
Bradley Thompson (5-0,2 KOs) extended his unbeaten record as he defeated the durable Stephen Jackson (1-52-1,1 KO) 40-36 in their super flyweight contest.
