Australia’s Tim Tszyu Back In Ring For March

Early Friday in Australia, confirmation has come that arguably their most prominent active fighter, unbeaten Junior middleweight Contender Tim Tszyu will be back in action in March.

Tszyu who is 17-0, 13 KOs is slated to fight veteran Dennis Hogan on a Wednesday night March 31st at a venue to be determined. Australian promoter/media personality Ben Damon confirmed on social media,

Tszyu was last in action in December destroying New Zealander Bowyn Morgan in the first round.  He dropped Morgan just over a minute into the opening round with a barrage of punches culminated by a right uppercut.  Referee John Cauchi allowed the fight to continue, even though Morgan looked wobbly and Tszyu, immediately ended things with a wicked overhand right dropping Morgan for the second time. Cauchi didn’t bother to count.

The 26 year old Australian and son of the former Hall of Fame fighter Kostya Tszyu has made quite a name for himself over the last year and a half. This includes his August 8th round TKO stoppage of former WBO World Welterweight champion and popular Australian fighter, Jeff Horn.

There has been talk and speculation that Tszyu might be in line to find WBO 154 lb. World champ Patrick Teixeira. However, there are complications with Tszyu either leaving Australia to come fight in the United States or whether Teixeira or any other prominent fighter would be able to get into the “Land Down Under,” reasonably.

This is because Australia has taken tremendously expansive and restrictive Coronavirus measures for anyone entering the country. That includes a mandatory 14-day hard quarantine and multiple Covid-19 tests before an individual arriving in the country is being allowed to interact with anyone in the country.

Australia has also greatly restricted movement within the continent itself from territory to territory and they’ve been able to mostly stamp out Covid-19 over the last few months because of it.

For now, Teixeira, who has had travel problems on his own from Brazil to the U.S. is looking to defend against American Brian Castano on February 13th in Indio, CA.

Hogan is a veteran at 28-3-1, lives in Australia now and was stopped by Jermall Charlo in the 7th round of their title bout in December of 2019. It is not known where the proposed Tszyu-Hogan battle would take place  Tszyu fought Morgan last month in front of over 15,000 fans outdoors at Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta, Australia.

He fought Horn in the popular tourist area of Townsville at an outdoor stadium there in the late Summer.
