‘This is a real heavyweight fight’– Eddie Hearn discusses Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul

Most Valuable Promotions recently announced that Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul will headline an MVP card at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

This heavyweight clash will be streamed live on Netflix at no additional cost to its 300+ million members. Many in the boxing world are sharing their opinions, and Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has spoken to the Matchroom Boxing social team, giving his honest reaction to Joshua vs Paul and how this intriguing bout fits into AJ’s future plans.

Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul set for December 19 in Miami

Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul looks set to attract attention across the globe, potentially bringing new viewers to the sport. Many believe the AJ (28-4, 25 KOs) knockout win is a formality, but it remains to be seen what he has left after the devastating loss to Daniel Dubois in 2024.

As Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) vs Joshua is listed as a sanctioned heavyweight bout, it’s important to take note of the rules, which are as follows:

  • The fight is scheduled for eight 3-minute rounds.
  • It is a sanctioned professional bout.
  • Paul and Joshua will wear 10-ounce gloves.
  • The only stipulation is that Joshua cannot weigh more than 245 pounds.

Talking to the Matchroom Boxing social team, Hearn spoke about the fight and how it fits into Joshua’s plans going forward:

“We think the fight is very straightforward. There’s a lot of people that are very excited about the thought of Anthony Joshua almost evaporating Jake Paul from the actual boxing world.

“You have to admire the front of Jake Paul and the heart. You know, he’s had criticism about the level of opposition. Now he steps up to a whole new stratosphere. For us, they made the offer, of course, financially, it was huge. We were planning potentially a little eight-round runout later this year. And now the eight-round runout will be against Jake Paul for more money than we could have ever dreamed of.

“So, the serious stuff for us, as you heard from Turki Alalshikh, begins in 2026. But at the same time, this was really an offer we couldn’t refuse. And, it’s a massive event. And, as AJ said in his press conference press release, no mercy! You know, this ain’t no exhibition. This is a real heavyweight fight,” said Hearn.
