Tony Bellew names ‘globally spectacular’ fight for Anthony Joshua’s return – and it’s not Tyson Fury

Following Anthony Joshua’s Olympic 2012 Gold Medal, he was catapulted into superstardom, which saw him sign with Matchroom Boxing.

AJ was 22-0 before his shock defeat to Andy Ruiz, a loss he avenged six months later. He has filled out stadiums around the world and inspired a generation.

Since his defeat to Daniel Dubois, speculation has reigned about whether AJ will fight again. In an exclusive interview with Pundit Arena, Tony Bellew has named a “globally spectacular” fight for Joshua’s return.

The return of Anthony Joshua

Adding fuel to the recent speculation, Joshua posted on his Instagram story, teasing a return, while praising two heavyweights and taking a fresh swipe at Tyson Fury.

“ICL I’m proud of Joseph Parker even tho he is a competitor. Real recognises real. He’s in the game to fight whoever, whenever and that’s the DNA of a real general. Unlike his dippy mate, Tyson Fury.

“I would dissect his career/record in minutes but I’ll leave that for a potential gloves are off if he ever comes back and fights Big Femi.

“Fabio Wardley respect to you aswell. Bro was working in recruitment helping your dad get a job a couple of years ago.

“Let that be a testament to God rooting in one’s favour and a statement to show, nothing is impossible (if you can have a scrap haha)

“To my supporters, I’ll be back to lace up my boots and put on my gloves sooner than later, hopefully punching Fury’s head in and dancing around his flicker jab with ease.”

Whatever the future holds for AJ, his legacy in British boxing is secure, but before he retires, will we see Joshua vs Fury?

It remains unknown when or if Joshua will return to the ring, despite various links and social media posts suggesting a return is imminent. When asked about AJ’s return, Bellew said:

“AJ should fight Martin Bakole in Africa. I just think it would appeal to so many people that would be globally spectacular. It would be huge to take boxing back to Africa. It will be the first time since 1976. So I’d like to see that. Martin Bakole, the greatest sparring partner the world has ever seen. Knocks everyone out on the spot. I think every time something’s mentioned to Martin Bakole, he moves away from the actual fight.”
