Andre Ward praises Terence Crawford and revisits Canelo win
Terence Crawford has received plenty of praise since his retirement from professional boxing. Many are referring to the Omaha native as an all-time great. He conquered all comers, very rarely looking in any trouble during his career.
His career has taken off in recent years, with high-profile wins against Errol Spence Jr., Israil Madrimov, and Canelo Alvarez. It’s difficult to discuss anything negative when talking about Crawford. Legendary former two-weight world champion Andre Ward recently shared his honest thoughts regarding Crawford and his win over Canelo when speaking to Carl Froch on Froch on Fighting.
Andre Ward delivers high praise to Terence Crawford
Andre Ward was asked by Carl Froch what he thought of Terence Crawford retiring: “I like it. What else are you gonna do? How much more money do you need? How many more training camps? How many more punches?” said Ward.
When asked what he thinks of Crawford as a fighter, Ward said, “Obviously, I think he’s one of the all-time greats.”
Carl Froch then paid his respects to Crawford, before mentioning that he expected Crawford vs Canelo to be more competitive, which led Ward to break the fight down: “It’s too much Terence Crawford. He was very motivated.
He came to win. He didn’t want to lose that fight like that. You get in there, and he’s better than Canelo thought. He’s stronger than Canelo thought. He hit harder than Canelo thought,” said Ward.
Terence Crawford’s legacy
When fight fans look back on the career of Terence Crawford, he will likely be remembered for his wins over Spence and Canelo, but Bud’s array of skills should be forever discussed.
He was an exceptional switch-hitter who had the ability to figure his opponents out during fights and adjust his tactics accordingly. His counterpunching and power saw him beat tough fighters such as Ricky Burns and Viktor Postol. His win over Spence was a beatdown of a fellow great fighter, but Crawford was too fast and too accurate for Spence Jr, who has never fought again since that night.
Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) has retired on top and will forever be remembered alongside the greats, such as Muhammad Ali, Rocky Marciano, and Sugar Ray Leonard.
