Ranking the Top 5 Money Draws in Boxing Today

At Big Fight Weekend, we enjoyed the recent fight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, which sold more than 1.2 million PPV units. The success of that fight led us to discuss the biggest box office stars in boxing. We decided to rank the top 5 boxing money draws. Let us know in the comments if you agree with our list.

Top 5 Money Draws in Boxing Today

1) Canelo Alvarez

In order to hit around 500,000 buys or more, it takes two big stars to generate that kind of interest. However, Canelo proved his pulling power in his recent contest against John Ryder. Rumours were circulating that Canelo vs Ryder only generated 150k-200k buys. Eddie Hearn clarified that the actual buys were more like “double,” meaning the Canelo homecoming fight brought in a healthy 300K – 400K buy rate. Despite his defeat to Bivol, it shows Alvarez is still an attraction in the world of boxing. Canelo has a reported net worth of £145 million.

2) Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua is a PPV superstar as Shallyn points out and continues to post impressive numbers. His memorable fight at Wembley Stadium against Wladimir Klitschko on April 29, 2017, produced a massive 1.5m buys. The fight saw A.J. climb off the canvas – and stop his opponent in round eleven. The British fighter has a reported net worth of £170m.

3) Tyson Fury

The Gypsy King continues to be a massive money draw in boxing. Tyson Fury garnered an incredible £21.5 million for his sixth-round destruction of Dillian Whyte on April 23, 2022, at Wembley Stadium in front of a bumper 94,000 spectators. Fury is one of the most recognisable people in world sport. His comeback from mental health issues resonated with millions of people worldwide. Forbes estimates Fury’s net worth to be around £50m.

4) Oleksandr Usyk

Oleksandr Usyk ruled the cruiserweight division before moving up to heavyweight and has so far reigned supreme, defeating Anthony Joshua twice. The rematch between the two sold an impressive £1.2 Million PPV buys. Usyk has enjoyed an eventful year, going back to Ukraine and joining the war against Russia. Usyk looks set to return to the ring against Daniel Dubois in Wrocław, Poland, on August 12. The Ukrainian remains one of the biggest boxing money draws and has a reported net worth of £45 million.

5) Gervonta Davis

Gervonta Davis is fast becoming one of the biggest names in boxing. His recent triumph against Ryan Garcia reportedly generated 1.2 million pay-per-view buys in the U.S. This win feels like – it will tank Tanks’ popularity onto a new level. It will be fascinating to see what comes next for Davis after his house arrest finishes. Gervonta Tank Davis has a reported net worth of around £8 million. Looking at how stacked the lightweight division is, it feels the net worth of Davis will soon skyrocket.
