What to expect from Jai Opetaia in 2026 after Zuffa move
Zuffa Boxing recently made a significant statement, announcing the signing of Jai Opetaia in a co-promotional deal with Tasman Fighters. It’s a move that made the boxing world stand up and take notice.
Opetaia (29-0, 23 KOs) has produced dazzling KO wins throughout his career, but has also shown his heart in his two tough wins over Mairis Briedis. It appears the Australian is close to making his debut for Zuffa ahead of a promising-looking 2026.
Jai Opetaia signs with Zuffa Boxing ahead of active 2026
Zuffa Boxing was formed by TKO and Sela, with a leadership consisting of Dana White, the president and CEO of UFC; Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, and owner of The Ring. Making up the company’s leadership is Sela managing director and CEO Dr. Rakan AlHarthy, and WWE president Nick Khan, who is also a TKO board member.
They have made it clear they wish to shake up the sport, with their much-publicised proposed changes to the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, which has attracted plenty of criticism. Regardless of the messages and intent, signing Opetaia is a message of clear intent to the boxing world.
Reacting to the news of his deal with Zuffa, Jai Opetaia said in a social media video: “Pumped for the future.”
“Exciting times. Let’s get these big fights over the line. Unification, undisputed, soon. Let’s go.”
What to expect from Opetaia’s 2026
Looking at Opetaia’s 2026, as reported by BoxingScene, it appears the Australian is close to finalising an agreement to fight Brandon Glanton on March 8 in the first fight of his co-promotional agreement with Zuffa Boxing and Tasman Fighters.
Opetaia was last in action, scoring a brutal KO win over Huseyin Cinkara in December 2025. If the Glanton fight is made, the Aussie puncher will be eager to make an impression on his Zuffa debut. It now appears Zuffa are open to working with the governing bodies, with Mick Francis of Tasman Fighters telling Boxing King Media: “They will let Jai fight for the titles and unify the division.”
If Jai Opetaia beats the durable Glanton, unification opportunities must follow. Opetaia deserves the opportunity to win more belts.
