Frank Warren Confirms Offer Sent For Fury-Joshua

What started as WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury once again blustering on social media about a potential opponent, now appears to at least have advanced to the discussion stage. This, as promoters for both Fury and Anthony Joshua have now confirmed that there are talks on going and an initial offer for Fury to defend his title against the former unified champion Joshua before the end of the year.

First here was Fury in a video message on Monday making an offer to fight Joshua,

As we know though, Fury has been prone to making similar social media videos and offers to other fighters, including one to journeyman Contender Derek Chisora last month. That fight was quickly debunked by Fury’s American promoter, Top Rank’s Bob Arum, who told our Dan Rafael that Fury likes to simply “he gets up in the morning. He figures what kind of sh*t to stir up and he says whatever he thinks.”

However, the potential battle with the other star of the U.K. appears to have much more legitimacy.

To that end Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who is licking his wounds along with Joshua after his latest defeat in the rematch with Olesandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia last month, confirmed to Talksport that there has been an initial offer made buy Fury’s camp for a possible Fury defense against his fighter.

Joshua, now 24-3, has lost three of his last five fights and his star power/marketability is now lessened.

Still, it would be another “rebound” chance for Joshua, and Hearn went on to say that he believed the bout would be December 10th or 17th in the U.K., if it happens.

Then, Fury’s other/original promoter, Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions, appeared on the Talksport midday radio TV simulcast Tuesday. There, he confirmed what Hearn had been saying about a formal offer being put to the Joshua camp. Warren was even accelerating the timeline of the fight as potentially being in November.

Fury, 32-0-1, just made his second successful title defense in April in front of a U.K. record 94,000+ fans at Wembley Stadium. That night he dispatched contender Dillian Whyte with a huge uppercut KO in the seventh round.

While the desire would be to hold a potential Fury-Joshua fight at an outdoor massive stadium like Wembley, it would be problematic due to winter time potentially hurting ticket sales and affecting the fighters.

Further, these discussions, public as they have become, are simply that- discussions. And, if Joshua isn’t agreeable to whatever the lopsided purse split in favor of Fury is guaranteed to be, then the proposed Fury-Joshua only makes for good conversation and topics on the internet.

Instead, everyone realizes what Fury really would want is an ultimate showdown with the WBA/IBF/WBO champ and unbeaten Usyk, to finally become undisputed heavyweight champ. Usyk has maintained publicly that he wants to fight Fury either late this year or early next year.

However, that fight may be more difficult to agree upon financially. This, as Usyk would demand a much bigger guaranteed payday than the Brit Joshua, who once again doesn’t have any of the belts and therefore, no leverage.
