The Best Liver Shivers Of 2020
The Best Liver Shivers Of 2020
There is nothing in the world of boxing like a well-placed body shot, a “liver shiver,” as some like to call it. You hear on broadcast all the time whenever you watch a fight, “There’s nothing like a well-placed body shot.”
I present to you a year in the making of a collection of what I call Liver Shivers.
This all started as I wanted to pin a different type of thread in 2020. Those of you who follow my hijinks at @weaksauceradio on Twitter know that the pinned thread I had for most of 2019 was my response to something that “Raging Babe” Michelle Rosado that read like one of those Myspace surveys people used to fill out when that was a thing. Reading my tweet back, still, pound for pound the best one out of the hundreds of responses she has gotten.
Most overrated boxer ever: Glass Joe
Most underrated boxer ever: Piston Honda
Current favorite boxer: Little Mac
Biggest disappointment:Soda Popinski
Favorite boxer of all time: King Hippo
Greatest boxer of all time: Great Tiger
Hardest Puncher Ever: Bald Bull
Best Trainer: Doc— Marquis Johns (@weaksauceradio) August 1, 2019
To do something different for 2020 and a little more serious, I created a highlight reel thread of body shot stoppages courtesy of the folks who captured the knockouts and transposed it to Twitter. I myself didn’t capture any video myself, but instead, I just transposed the tweet and gathered them to create the thread below. Some are household names in the states; others are from watchers of all world boxing events @timboxeo.
What started up was one of the sickest shots of the year back in January when Travell “Black Magic” Mazion landed a shot to the body on Fernando Castaneda at the Alamodome. That left he landed is what kicked off the collection.

Here are some of my favorite body shots that I liked in the year, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t include the shot from Shohjahon Ergashev.

If you’re telling me I had to pick just one out of all of them, I’d tell you that one that Jermell Charlo landed to Jeison Rosario would be my winner for 2020.

This is just a sample of the tons of body shot knockdowns complied this year. If you think I missed the one you’d like, please check the tweet below and see for yourself.

Marquis Johns is a unknown humorist and avid boxing fan. His love for the sweet science goes back to when matches were 15 rounds and has been covering fights since closed-circuit pay-per-views. Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth is not only a quote by Mike Tyson, it's also a pretty good reminder to keep your guard up.
