Tyson-Jones: My Thoughts
Tyson-Jones: My Thoughts
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t see it, but Saturday night was the “exhibition” of Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., and while the main event meant nothing in the grand scheme of things, I hate to say this but, I enjoyed the event.
Make no mistake; I came into this event telling any man, woman, and slug that there were only a few things off the card that I was looking forward to. To my defense, Jamaine Ortiz stopping Sulaiman Segawa and Edward Vazquez decsionsing Irvin Gonzalez in an absolute firefight was not only entertaining, but helped springboard what has been the past few days in boxing. Which is to say, some of the dullest action that showed the effects of eating too much Thanksgiving turkey.
Tyson and Jones fighting to a draw was what it was.
The bigger story in that “fight” is, those who had any short-term investment Tyson or Jones and had to depend on the scorecards of celebs Christy Martin, Chad Dawson, and Vinny Paz in what was pretty much stated to be an exhibition with no actual winners well in advance.
Paz didn’t help you out throwing up a scorecard of 80-76 either.
If you did, however, bet on that main event, that phone number is 1-800-ADMIT-IT. Stop reading this and call now. Operators are standing by.
The real story is how Youtube star Jake Paul is blowing up former NBA Slam Dunk Champion Nate Robinson in two rounds. Like to hate the YouTube folks in boxing, Paul’s demolishing of Robinson went viral, and #NateRobinsonChallenge on Twitter is welcoming you with a world full of reenactments, memes, and the second coming of those Planking videos I thought we left behind years ago.

Serious note, Robinson is okay, but that shot and Snoop Dogg, who performed and was on commentary for the final two bouts, was the highlight of the event. Snoop, of course, is one of the investors in Triller, so needless to say he had an interest in the event and was in rare form on commentary, getting praises by most who watched, including me.
The only crack I have on the whole event isn’t even the musical acts between the fights, but during the fights, the production truck kept putting up 0-0 or blank punch stats during fights, which were clearly gaffes.
All in all, the show was a good one, and if for $49.95 this is what we’d get, I legitimately can’t sit here and scoff at it.
Marquis Johns is a unknown humorist and avid boxing fan. His love for the sweet science goes back to when matches were 15 rounds and has been covering fights since closed-circuit pay-per-views. Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth is not only a quote by Mike Tyson, it's also a pretty good reminder to keep your guard up.
